Shank conch shell, the primordial horn of cosmic creation
The Shankha (conch shell) is one of the eight auspicious symbols of Tibetan Buddhism and one of the oldest ritual instruments known to humanity. In Monpa monasteries and across the Himalayan Buddhist world, the conch is blown at dawn to awaken the gods and at festivals to announce the presence of the divine. Vishnu holds the Shankha in Hindu cosmology; in Buddhism it represents the voice of the dharma â a sound that dissolves ignorance and fills the universe with truth. This ceremonial Shank, with its naturally spiraled form, is both a sacred instrument and a stunning objet d'art.
